The department of health and the government provided different services for person with HIV/AIDS.    

Here are the services provided by the Government.

  1. HIV counseling and testing center
  2. The government also mandated Republic Act No. 8504 (an act promulgating policies and prescribing measures for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the Philippines, Instituting a nationwide HIV/AIDS information and educational program, establishing a comprehensive HIV/AIDS mentoring system strengthening the Philippine national AID council, and for other purposes.)
  3. Peer education and outreach
  4. Usage of condom provided in the Barangay Health Center
  5. Community assemble in reducing social stigma for person with HIV/AIDS.
  6. Empowerment of communities

How can they avail of these services?

You can avail these services by consulting in any Barangay Health Centers. You will be given some test and physician will provide you the details with your case.

Person with HIV will received an antiretroviral therapy which suppresses the activity of the HIV virus but not literally destroy or kill them. Although the drugs can result to a better chance of living normal and healthy lifespan, most people are afraid to be tested if they positive of HIV due to social stigma and anxiety.

Here is what happen to your body when infected with HIV.

HIV virus will destroys CD4 cells which plays a very important role in the immune system. CD4 cells will trigger the immune response to respond to specific infection attacking the system. If CD4 cells are destroyed, immune response will not be activated making our body prone to opportunistic infection or any form of infections. The HIV virus will not kill us, what kills us is its complication making our body prone to any form of infections. HIV virus will attack the CD4 cells and the virus will injects its genetic materials to the hosts CD4 cells. Genetic coding of CD4 cells can be altered to produce other HIV virions. In doing so, the host CD4 cell is killed and it will not function as it is. Immune response to a certain infection will not be triggered when all CD4 cells are destroyed making our body prone to any type of infection.
